After typing the prior two notes, I can see there is real value from moving from a time based routine to something more processed focused. This falls in line with the same goals setting structure I have previously read about.
A simple example would be the partner time I spend with Rachel. A lot of times, I look at the time and feel stressed that I am not spending enough time with her. Qualitatively, we have talked about that it is not the amount of time that we are spending but the quality of the time we are spending together. If my goal was to have one meaningful conversation a night, then I would feel like my commitment to her was fulfilled and I can transition onto the next thing that I would like to accomplish for the night.
The benefits of this are theoretically great. I remove time based pressure. I have more meaningful conversations. I do not feel guilt about transitioning to the next state. Instead, I feel accomplished and there is a tangible output that is arguably better than what was happening before.
I would also suspect, in turn, it would take less time to actually complete the objective and the quality of the output would be far greater.
